I. Defining our Relationship with God
A. We are heirs: 1:1-13
  a. 1:3 born to a living hope
  b. 1:4 to obtain an inheritance
  c. 1:10 - the prophets who prophesied about grace
B. We are his children: 1:14-2:3
  a. 1:14 - as obedient children
  b. 1:18 -19 - "you were...redeemed...with the precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless....of Christ.
  c. 1:23 - "you were born again...of seed...word of God"
  d. 1:25 - "the word of the Lord abides forever"
  e. 2:2 - "like newborn babes long for spiritual milk"
C. We are Priest who serve God - 2: 4-8.
  a. 2:4 - "coming to Him as a living stone"
  b. 2:5 - "you also, as living stones are being built as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood.
D. That makes us a grateful nation 2:9-10
  a. 2:9 - "you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation.

II. Defining our relationship with the world. 2:11-4:6
A. We are Citizens. 2: 11-17
B. We are servants 2:18-25.
2:21 - "Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in his foot steps."
2:24 - "He himself bore our sins in His body on the cross"
C. Making a difference in how:
  a. We treat our Spouses. 3: 1-7
  b. We are to be peacemakers. 3:8-12
  c. At the same time revolutionaries. 3:13-16
3:15 - " always be ready to make a defense."
  d. Yes, we will suffer 3:17: 4:6
3:17 - "It is better ....that you suffer for doing what is right
than for doing what is wrong.

3:18-19 - "Christ also died for sins...having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the Spirit, in which also He went
and made proclamation to the spirits now in prison."
3:21 - "baptism now saves...an appeal to God for a clean conscience."
III. Defining our Relationship to the Church.
A. We are Stewards. 4: 7-5:11
4:7 - "The end of all things is at hand;...be of sound judgment and sober spirit for the purpose of prayer."
4:8 - "Above all, deep fervent in your love fore one another" because love covers a multitude of sins."
4:10 - "As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of manifold grace.
B. We probably will suffer - 4: 12-19.
4:16 - "if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not feel ashamed, but in that name let him glory God."
4:17 - "It is time for judgment to begin with the household of God."
C. The Head Shepherd 5: 1-4
5:4 - "And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.
D. The Behavior of the Sheep 5:5-11
5:5 - "Clothe yourselves with humility toward one another"
5:6 - "Humble yourselves, therefore under the mighty hand of God that he may exalt you at the proper time."
5:7 - " casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you."
5:8 - "Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls about like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour."
