The Peace Offering Part Two; Leviticus chapter 3 1

1. The Old Testament tells us the meaning of the Peace Offering ( Ps. 23:5; 36:8 and Isaiah 25:6).

2. New Testament figures - where God prepares a feast.

A. The marriage feast of the Kings son - Matt. 22:1-14.

B. The great supper - Luke 14: 15-24.

C. The celebration of the return of the prodigal son - Luke 15:23.

D. I appoint unto you a kingdom, that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom - Luke 22:30.

E. The living bread from heaven - John 6:51-58.

F. The joy of fellowship between God and His people - Rev. 3:20 and Rev. 19:9.

3. One is not feasted in the house of those from whom he is estranged.

A. An invitation to the feast is evidence that all enmity is gone and friendship is offered. Deut. 12:7

B. This is the gospel story of love.

4. The banquet feast was the flesh of the slain victim - whose blood was given (marginal as it was) for atonement for sins.

A. As the fat is fumed to God it is the food of the offering made unto YHWH and is God's portion of the banquet.

B. The worshiper's part is called the bread of God, or bread from God.

1) The sacrifice moves beyond atonement for sin to joys of fellowship because of atonement.

2) The victim of the altar and the food on the table are the same. Thus, the death of Christ on the cross was for more than atonement. It was where we meet God for fellowship.

C. John 6: 25-58 is the direct fulfillment of type and anti-type of the peace offering.

D. None of the peace offering could be left for the third day.

1) In the thank offering it had to be eaten the day it was offered and anything not eaten burned outside the camp. Lev. 7:17.

2) The vow and the free will offering could be eaten on the second day - then the leftovers had to be burned.

3) Psalms 16:10 - states that Christ's flesh was not allowed to see corruption - thus it was raised early on the 3rd day.

E. Other New Testament passages that use the figure of eating.

1) Heb. 6:4, I Peter 2:2, I Cor. 5:8, Matt. 5:6; I Cor. 6:16; Romans 6:16.

2) Peace passages - John 14:27; 16:33; Acts 10:36; Romans 5:1; Eph. 2:17, Col. 3:15.

5. The prohibition of eating fat or blood.

1) All the fat of animals belongs to God - Lev. 7:22-27.

2) Any animal offered in a sacrifice must have blood and fat offered to God alone.

3) When an animal dies of other causes or is killed by a beast, the fat may be used for other purposes - but never for eating.

4) Any soul that eats either shall be cut off from the people.

6. The reason for the blood prohibition - Lev. 17:11-1`2.

1) It is given on the altar to make atonement for your souls.

2) For it is the blood that makes atonement by the reason of life.
