Judah's Needs Salvation, Chapters 1-5

A. Sinful Children.

1. Rebellious

2. Ignorant

3. Disrespectful

4. Sick and bruised

They are reared sons who revolt. Ox and Donkey know their owner. Weighed down with iniquity. The offspring of evil doers. Sick head, weak heart. Bruises and wounds un-bandaged.

B. Desolate Land 1: 7-9

1. Burned Cities

2. Devoured Fields

3. Few Survivors

Strangers will devour your fields. Like a watchman's hut in cucumber field. Will be like Sodom and Gomorrah

C. Hypocritical Worship 10-15

1. Worthless Sacrifices

2. Abominable Incense

3. Despised feast days and assemblies.

4. Unheard Prayers joined with iniquity.

They are like the rulers of Sodom and Gomorrah. No pleasure in the blood of animals. You trample my courts with iniquity. Hands are full of bloodshed.

D. Impenitent Rejection of forgiveness. 15-20.

1. Repentance from sin.

2. Works of righteousness

3. We need to reason together.

a. It is either forgiveness and blessings.

b. Or complete destruction.

They have a choice. The process of anti-thesis. How to reason. Must be between alternates. Sins like scarlet, red like crimson. Can be, white as wool or snow.


Eat best of land or devoured by sword. Your choice?

E. Unfaithful City. 1:21-31.

1. Unjust City justice turned into murder.

2. No rulers in City Rulers turned to rebels.

a. They have compassion on thieves.

b. Lovers of bribes and rewards.

c. Failed to help orphans and widows.

3. Purged City.

4. Redeemed city: through repentance and righteousness.

5. Restored City bring back judges of old.

6. Punished City.

She is the faithful wife that became a harlot. Silver into dross. Drink the diluted water.


God's hand; dross smelted. City of righteousness. Oak that fades. Garden without water. Tender and spark to burn.

F. The World City vs the Worldly City. 2:1-9.

1. The future world city of Influence.

a. Nations look to Jerusalem to know God's Word.

b. God will judge the nations.

c. Nations learn of peace and not war.

2. The present city influenced the world without God's light or presence. 2:5-9.

a. Worldly Visions.

b. Worldly Riches.

c. Worldly idols.

(1) The common man abased.

Swords into plowshares; spears into pruning forks. "Come let us walk in the light of God."


All of this will happen in the "last days." The Hebrew word, bēt is also the word for "Temple." The Old house (Temple) of God will be replaced with a new (Temple) house of God in the last days of God's theocratic reign over Israel.(See Hebrews 8:16ff) Notice in Eph. 2:19 the household of God is the Temple of God in verse 2:21 and both of these are the church in Eph. 5:23.


Things made by the hands of men.

G. The Abasement of the Proud. 2:10-4:1.

1. The coming day of reckoning. 2:10-12.

2. Proud look of man to be abased. 2:13-14

3. Destruction of man's material possessions. 2:15

4. Destruction of man's works.2:16

5. Destruction of man's pride. 2:17

6. Destruction of man's idols. 2:18-20.

7. Destruction of man. 2:21-22.

8. Removal of man's sustenance. 3:1

9 Removal of political power: 3: 2-15.

a. Children will rule.3:4-5. Hezekiah, Manasseh were 8-12 years old as co-rulers.

b. Men refuse to rule. 3:6-7. Most to poor to rule.

c. Reasons:

(1) rebel against the Lord.

(2) Display sin like Sodom.

d. Women will rule. 3:12

(1) Few men left alive during Assyrian and Babylon exiles.

e. The Lord will rule and judge. 3:13-15.

10. Removal of Women's beauty.

Reason:

(1) Proud and Seductive.

(2) Removal of women's luxury and ornaments.

(3) Removal of their beauty.

(4) Removal of their husbands.

Enter the rock and hide in the dust. Against the cedars of Lebanon and oaks of Bashan, and mountains. Against high towers and fortified walls. Against ships of Tarshish, The Lord will be exalted. Idols will vanish. Men will cast away idols.



Must stop regarding man whose life is in his nostrils.



Mighty Men.

Capricious chlidren.







Crush the people, grind the face of the poor.













Heads high, seductive eyes, tinkling feet. Scabs on head in place of hair. Instead of belt they will wear a rope.

Be seven women for one man.




H. The Glorified City: The Promised Branch. 4:2-6.

1. Future Branch of Beauty.

a. Haily: Messiah

b. Willis: good crops.

c. McGuiggan: remnant of Jews.

2. Future fruitfulness.

3. Future holiness.

4. Future washing of filth.

5. Future protection and guidance by God.



"The Branch of the Lord."( See Chapter 11).

The word "Branch" is progressive in its history. It is a word that over time grew into a technical meaning as a reference to the "Messiah." (See Jer. 23:5; 33:15; Zech. 3:8; 6:12. In Isaiah chapter 4, the word is just a seed in early germination. By the time we reach Isaiah chapter 11, the Branch is the Messiah or "The Branch of the Lord."

I. The Worthless Vineyard. 5:1-17.

1. Effort to prepare a vineyard. 5:1-2.

2. Expectation of good grapes. 5: 2b-4.

3. Reaction to wild grapes. 5:5-6.

a. Grapes of greed- loss of object of greed.

b. Grapes of drunkenness- exile, hunger and thrist.

(1) Lack of attention to the Word of God.

(2) Lack of knowledge of God.

c. Grapes of pride - abasment.

(Judah and Israel)












Fertile hill, dig remove stones. Plant, build tower and wine vat. Now, remove, break and lay waste.

J. Woes to Sinnerds. 5: 18-30.

1. Description of Sinner 5:18-23.

a. Brazen sin 5:18

b. Defiance of God. 5:19

c. Perversion 5:20

d. Egotism. 5:21

e. Drinking heros 5:22

f. Bribe takers 5:23


2. God's Wrath 5: 27-30

a. Destruction 5:24


b. Death 5:25


c. Captivity 5:27-30.

(1) Assyria against Israel

(2) Babylon agaisnt Judah

Drag sin with ropes "Let Him hasten His work" "Those who call evil good and good evil." "Darkness for light" "Bitter for sweet" "Wise in own eyes." Wine&Strong drink. Justify the wicked. Remove the rights of the righteous.


Tongue of fire consumes stubble. Root will rot. Blossom will fall. God's anger burns. Streched out hand. Mountains quake; Corpes like trash in the street. Whistles for a nation Comes with speed. Growls & Seizes the prey like a lioness. It will be a land of darkness.
