I. The Humbled City, Chapter 6


1. Prophecy against the Mountains of Israel. 6:1-3
That is, against the high places of idolatry.
2. Prophecy of broken altars and idols. 6:4-7
Smashed altars surrounded by dead bodies.
Waste cities and broken idols, works blotted out.
3. Remnant of those who escape. 6:8-10
Should remember God among the nations
Should remember that God predicted this disaster.
4. Desolation to Express God's wrath so men will know the Lord_6:11-14
The high places of our materialistic society will be be brought down. God's wrath proves His existence and His love.

II. The Terminal City. Chapter 7

The day of God's wrath is near. 7:1,5,6,7,8,10,12
1. The day of Disaster is Near. 7:1-7
2. The Abominable Cause of Disaster. 7: 8-11a
a. The rod has budded; arrogance has blossomed.
b. Violence has grown into a rod of wickedness. 7:10-11
3. The Horrible Consequences of that day. 7:11b-27.
a. The multitude's wealth will be destroyed. 7:11b.
b. Seller and buyer will lose all they have. 7:12-13.
c. Sword from outside; plague and famine within. 7:15.
d. Money cannot deliver ___7:19
e. Will be possessed by the worst of nations. 7:21,24
f. Prophecy and vision and law will be lost to the people and their leaders.
g. Prince and king clothed in horror.
Note: Those who place their hope in this life will see it all disappearing. Here we have:
1. The end of Riches
2. The end of life.
3. The end of joy.
4. The end of possessions.
5. The end of pride
6. The end of wisdom

III. The Idolatrous City. chapter 8

1. Ezekiel's hair lift. 8:1-3a

2. Idol of Jealousy. 8:3b-6

3. Secret Room (North of the Altar Gate) of Carved Images. 8:7-15.
a. 2nd Kings 21:7 (2nd Chron. 33:15) Manasseh erects and later removes image of Asherah.
b. Shapan__2nd Kings 22:3; Jer. 26:24.
c. Numbers 11:16-16__70 elders worship with incense the carved images. Woman worshiping Tammuz the Summerian god who died in the underworld; his wife, Ishtar, left to find him; vegetation died. See Isaiah 17:10-11.
4. Temple of Sun Worshipers__8:16-17.
2nd Kings 23:11__25 Priests (inner court of the Temple) facing east toward the sun.
5. Consequences of their idolatry: 8:18
a. God will deal with them in wrath.
b. God will not listen to their pleas for help.
Note: Jealous God! When we fail to listen to Him, He may not listen to us!
IV. The Slaughtered City. Chapter 9
1. The Six Executioners. 9:1-2
Note: The all Seeing God_____
2. The mark of the Innocent. 9: 3-4___man with a writing case
___Mark on the foreheads of the innocent and righteous. 2nd Tim. 2:19. Rev. 9:4 and 4:13.
Note: God knows who belongs to Him
3. Slaughter of the Unmarked Wicked. 9:5-11
a. Start from the sanctuary. 1st Peter 4:17-18.
b. The Temple and the city filled with the slain. 9:7-8.
4. The Reason for the Slaughter (9:9); they say the Lord has forsaken the land and the Lord does not see!
Note: God knows your secret sins.

V. The Abandoned City__Chapter 10.

1. The Enthroned Glory in the Temple. 10:1-5
___God dwells in His Temple.
2. The Scattering of Fiery Coals Over the City. 10: 6-7.
___God's wrath poured out from the altar of burnt incense in the most holy place. Rev. 8:3-4.
Note: God's wrath and holiness
3. The identification of the living creatures as cherubim, 10:8-17
4. The departure of the glory of the Lord from the Temple. 10:18-22.
___The Lord abandons the city and the temple.
___The Spirit departed from Saul. 1st Sam. 16:14
___David prays that the Spirit not depart him. Ps. 51:11
Note: Do not grieve or quench the Spirit. If you leave God He may leave you.
