The Tailored Document
Both Adam and Noah were commanded to fill the earth and to
exercise control over it. Each of them is actually the ancestor of all
men in the present world. Each sinned by partaking of a fruit, Noah of
the fruit of the vine and Adam of the fruit of the tree of knowledge.
As a result, each became naked and then each was provided with a
covering by someone else. Finally, the prophecy resulting in each case
included a curse which has affected mankind ever since. (Dr. Henry
Morris The Beginning of the World. p. 129.)
Resurrection Type
It is interesting to note the recurring significance of
the "17th day" in the narrative of the Flood. In the 17th day of the
2nd month, the flood began (Gen. 7:11); on the 17th day of the 7th
month, the ark settled safely on the mountains of Ararat (Gen. 8:4).
Then on the 17th day of the 11th month, 9 months after the Flood began,
the dove returned with the olive leaf, indicating that plant life, with
the necessary food for man's physical life, once again was growing in
the earth (Gen 8:5-6, 10-11).
This day thus became, in effect, the "resurrection day"
for the earth, and especially for the ark and those preserved in it
through the earth's great baptism. It is no doubt significant,
therefore, that the anniversary of this date, many centuries later, was
the date on which Christ rose from the dead! The 7th month of the
Jewish civil year later was made the 1st month of the religious year,
and the Passover was set for the 14th day of that month (Exod. 12:2).
Christ, our Passover, was slain on that day, but then rose three days
later, on the 17th day of the 7th month of the civil calendar! (Dr.
Henry Morris The Beginning of the World. p. 109.)
Nothing New Under the Sun?
Peter did not agree with the principle of uniformity.
In 2nd Peter 3:4 Peter addressed those who believed in the
principle of uniformity. "All things continue as they were since the
creation of the world." The rest of the chapter tells us that the
principle of uniformity is not true. (Dr. Henry Morris, The Beginning
of the World. p. 153. )
Scientific Study of the Origins of the Earth?
It should be obvious that modern "science," in the truest sense of the
word, is able to study only the present cosmos. The antediluvian cosmos
is no longer accessible for scientific measurement and observation.
Such relics of the first cosmos as may have survived into the present
world can, of course, be studied scientifically in their present
condition, but this can tell us nothing directly about their
former conditions of existence. The only genuine sources of
information for an antediluvian cosmology would be either the
historical records of eyewitness or divine revelation. The
biblical record in Genesis is both. (Dr. Henry Morris, The Beginning of the World. p. 153.)
As a matter of observation, belief in something is necessary for true
mental health. A philosophy of life is a philosophy, not a scientific
experiment. A life based on the whim of the moment, with no rationale,
is 'a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying
nothing' (Dr. Henry Morris, Scientific Creationism. p. 5).
The only reason for saying that special creation is incredible would be
if one had certain knowledge that there was no God. Obviously, if no
Creator exists, then special creation is incredible. But since a
universal negative can only be proved if one has universal knowledge,
such a statement requires omniscience. Thus, by denying God, Dr. Watson
is claiming the attributes of God himself (Dr. Henry Morris, Scientific Creationism p. 8).
My favorite quote from Ken Ham:
No evidence for a worldwide flood? Right, all you have are "billions of
dead things buried in rock layers laid down by water all over the
earth."
